We tried. Extremely we have a tendency to tried. We have a tendency to put in this great rice mix from Indian Harvest (indianharvest.com) that included wild rice, red colusari rice, and kamut (not rice in the least). You have to understand that this rice cooker has no settings: simply "cook" and "keep warm." I was a touch dubious that the rice cooker would handle such an odd thing. But it did. We tend to left it running on Thanksgiving, once we extremely required to not use an additional spot on the stove, or to possess to stress concerning when to start out the rice. This rice cooker can keep rice heat for hours (12, it says) without hurting it, so we tend to just started the rice about three or 4 hours previous to dinner, when we weren't particularly busy as a result of the turkey was taking up the oven.

The lid for this rice cooker clicks shut and you've got to push a unleash button to open it back up. This is often great as a result of it prevents unnecessay moisture from escaping while cooking and whereas the rice is keeping warm. Beneath the lid may be a thin metal disk-shaped cowl that's removable, therefore you can wash it easily. And, as if that weren't sufficient, this rice cooker conjointly contains a great 'keep heat' feature. When your rice is done cooking, this feature kicks in. This can be great if you are preparing something very troublesome to make and need to cook the rice initial thus you do not have to accommodate it later. This feature conjointly works well if individuals in your house eat at different times. I've accidentally left my rice in 'keep warm' mode for the full day and my rice never got dry or overcooked. Another thing I favor concerning this rice cooker are the styles offered. Typically rice cookers from Japan have elegant flowers on the sides. This 1 comes in plain white, which fits in with my kitchen.

Even Heating: This thing does in truth heat terribly evenly. I was impressed. The rice was perfectly done, not overcooked, not undercooked. Additives: 1 thing disappointed me a bit. If you want to stay your rice heat for any length of time, you can't put anything in with the rice - not stock, not butter - not even salt! Salt is the key to flavorful rice! But no, if you use the keep warm cycle then any of those ingredients can result in a spoiled smell. Humph. Availability: We tend to found our unit at cooking.com, our favorite internet-based cookware store. Umm, ignore that thing at the top of this epinion that probably says "not obtainable at internet-based stores," or a minimum of that's what it says while I write this. I asked epinions, since that was obviously not true, and it turns out that just means that it`s not out there at those internet-based stores that have signed up with epinions. Ugh. I very love epinions, but I do not perceive why they can't say "not accessible from our partners." Saying "not out there at net-based stores" is terribly misleading. Rice cookers aren't for everyone. If you don't make much rice, you most likely won't need 1. We tend to got ours because it's a pain to possess to accommodate the rice whereas making the rest of dinner, and because we have a tendency to for instance odd rices that have unusual (and typically unpredictable) cooking times. This takes all of the guesswork out of it. When that little "keep heat" light:weight goes on, you recognize your rice is completed - it very is that straightforward!
